Mid North Coast Skylights
Let abundant light into your home with quality solar skylight. At Forster Solar and Lighting, we supply and install a great selection of skylights from acclaimed brands, including illume™. These skylights are easy to install, have no running costs, suit multi-level dwellings and require no power or batteries!
What’s more, our skylights are specially designed to minimise heat transfer and to be as energy efficient as possible; they capture and rely upon energy from the sun to open and close. Not to mention they're resistant to insects, dust and mould, making them the ideal low maintenance solution.
Thinking of putting in a natural light skylight such as Velux? Have a chat with us and we can source them for you and recommend a local builder to install them for you. For enquiries or to make a booking, get in touch with us on (02) 6554 8776.

The Benefits Of illume™ Solar Skylights
There are a host of benefits to choosing one of our illume™ solar skylights for your home or business:
- They can be DIY installed: Whilst it’s always easier to have someone install it for you, with the right tools, our solar skylights are easy enough to DIY. Simply mount the solar collector on your roof, cut out the templated hole in your ceiling plaster and hook up the cabling.
- They’re energy efficient: Compared to traditional skylights where the light shaft can compromise the integrity of your insulation, illume™ doesn’t. This makes it more energy efficient, and as a result, it can reduce your utility costs in comparison.
- They don’t require regular cleaning: illume™ avoids the common issues experienced with skylights such as build-up of mould, dead bugs and dust.
- They’re automatic: illume™ skylights come with built-in rain censors and can automatically close if the weather takes a turn for the worst while you’re not at home.

How do solar skylights work compared to traditional skylights?
Solar skylights use solar-powered LED lighting rather than a physical opening in the roof to channel natural light into a room. Unlike traditional skylights, which rely on a fixed or domed glass panel, solar skylights capture sunlight via an external solar panel and transfer it as light through a ceiling-mounted fixture inside. This setup allows for more flexible installation without structural roof alterations or heat gain issues. Because they’re electrically powered by the sun, they also function on overcast days and can include backup battery storage for evening use.
Are solar skylights a good option for rooms without direct roof access?
Yes, solar skylights are ideal for rooms that don’t have direct access to the roof or where traditional skylights would be difficult or costly to install. Since they rely on external solar panels and internal light fittings, they can be installed in lower levels of multi-storey homes, internal bathrooms, hallways, or other areas surrounded by roof space. Cabling connects the solar panel to the light fixture, giving homeowners the appearance and brightness of natural daylight without needing to cut through multiple ceiling layers.
Do solar skylights help reduce energy bills?
Solar skylights can reduce electricity costs by providing free, solar-powered lighting during the day and—depending on the model—into the evening using stored energy. This reduces reliance on artificial lighting, especially in darker parts of the home. Unlike traditional skylights, they don’t add to indoor heat during summer or lose warmth in winter, which can also lower heating and cooling demand. Over time, this improved energy efficiency can contribute to noticeable savings on power bills.
